Lea Michele, Chris Colfer Won’t Be Getting Glee Spinoff, Will Return Next Season
Written by on January 15th, 2012

It looks like Ryan Murphy and Team Glee are closer to figuring out how to handle the pending graduation of several key characters, including those played by Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, and Chris Colfer. When last we left the drama over the future of the Fox musical drama, co-creator Ryan Murphy told Deadline that plans for a spinoff were on hold and that a decision on whether to revive them would be made in 2012. Well, the verdict is in: “There will not be a Glee spinoff,” Fox Entertainment chief Kevin Reilly said definitively Sunday at his network’s portion of the semi-annual TV Critics Association press tour. However, Michele, Colfer, et al., “are graduating,” Reilly says. So they’re leaving the show? Probably not.

When asked by reporters whether Michele would return, Reilly said the actress “will still be part of the show.” Afterward, when asked to clarify the status of Michele and the other graduating seniors, Reilly admitted that he hadn’t yet “looked at all of the contractual situations” of the actors. “But we’d like to have all of them back,” he said. As for just how the Glee producers plan to include former high school students in a show about high school, Reilly would only say that Murphy has come up with “a cool idea for next season” and that he couldn’t say more. Later, Vulture asked if perhaps producers were mulling a show-within-a-show, or a split focus where some episodes would be set in Lima and others in whatever new universe is created for the former McKinley students. “I’m alluding to some version of that, but I don’t want to get ahead of myself,” he said.

Lea Michele Candies Deal Inked, Sources Say
Written by on January 13th, 2012

Remember Candies, those sneakers you wore in middle school when you weren’t busy wearing your Skechers? The shoe brand is still alive and kicking — and singing, perhaps. Candies has selected Lea Michele as its newest spokeswoman, reports E! exclusively.

That presumably means Vanessa Hudgens of “High School Musical” fame is out and join a long line of former Candies girls, including Fergie, Hayden Panettiere and Jenny McCarthy.

Of course the most memorable Candies girl was Britney Spears, who played up her former blonde, candy-coated image for the girlish sneaker ads. She also drew attention to the brand by releasing some un-airbrushed images from one of her Candies campaigns, raising awareness of the rampant use of Photoshop.

We’re not assuming Lea will do the same… but we are 99 percent certain her ads will include pink, glitter, lots of lipstick and maybe even a few lollipops.

Lea Michele Among Hollywood’s Most Charitable of 2011
Written by on December 30th, 2011

Shocker! Lady Gaga reigns in Hollywood for something other than her music. The pop star landed in the #1 spot for the second year in a row as the most charitable star, according to DoSomething.org’s annual Celebs Gone Good List.

Gaga has always been an outspoken advocate against bullying and recently started an anti-bullying charity, The Born This Way Foundation. (So, y’know before when we said we were “shocked”? We weren’t.)

Other non surprises include Angelina Jolie and her only friend Brad Pitt (#8) as a duo. Meanwhile, the couple formerly known as Ashton Kutcher and Mrs. Kutcher (Demi Moore) did pretty well at #12.

Glee star Lea Michele and her commitment to animal rights made its debut on the Top 20 list,  ahead of Hollywood heavy-hitters Daniel Radcliffe, Miley Cyrus, Coldplay, and Taylor Swift!

Check out the whole list of generous celebs and details of their 2011 do-gooding at DoSomething.org’s site. You may even find some inspiration as you finalize your New Year’s resolutions list.

Lea Michele Changed Her Last Name Because of Bullying
Written by on December 9th, 2011

Lea Michele has more in common with her Glee character Rachel Barry than her vocal talent. The 25-year-old New Year’s Eve actress was bullied in school, but not because of her social status — because of her name.

“Sarfati. That’s my real last name,” Michele said on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno Wednesday. “I don’t use it a lot because I got Lea So-fatty, Lea So-farty at school.”

Of course, Michele isn’t the only actor to speak out about their experiences with bullying in school. Stars like Charlize Theron, Demi Lovato and Eva Longoria have all opened up recently to discuss how they survived the mean kids of their youth.

So when did the Triple Threat drop her real last name and start using Michele instead?

“When I was little and I went on my first audition, they were like, ‘And may we have your name?’ And I was like, ‘Lea Michele.’ And I’ve been Lea Michele ever since.”

‘New Year’s Eve’ brings formula romance to the party
Written by on December 9th, 2011

Why bother with a new title? New Year’s Eve is simply 2010′s Valentine’s Dayall over again, and it’s about as appealing as a flute of cheap Champagne left over from the last holiday.

There’s the mousy middle-aged woman (an unattractively photographed Michelle Pfeiffer) who impulsively quits her boring desk job. She’s hellbent on fulfilling resolutions amassed over the years — like traveling around the world and seeing Bali — all in a day. She engages the services of a bike messenger (Zac Efron) who cuts corners but offers more excitement than she apparently has ever known. (He takes her to a spa named Bali and the world travel is done by hopping around a giant map in a museum.) Charmed yet?

Other vignettes are just as lame-brained. A slacker/New Year’s Eve hater (Ashton Kutcher) and his perky neighbor (Glee‘s Lea Michele) get stuck in an elevator. Initially they can’t stand each other, then after she sings a song in the confined space, sparks ignite.

Check out pics of Lea (and Ashton) at the premiere.

Lea Michele on New Year’s Eve, Her Glee Wardrobe, and Les Miz Rumors
Written by on December 9th, 2011

Lea Michele doesn’t stray too far from her Glee character Rachel Berry in Garry Marshall’s star-packed New Year’s Eve: Once again, she plays a precocious singing talent matched with a tall, amiable galoof (in this case, Ashton Kutcher). Still, the film is notable as Michele’s first big-screen endeavor, and even bigger things may be to come for the 25-year-old actress, as rumors have her on the very select short list to play Eponine in Tom Hooper’s movie version of Les Miserables. An enthusiastic Michele recently sat down with Vulture to talk about her fear of romancing Kutcher, the scrutiny that comes with those Les Miz rumors, and the aesthetic influence of her Glee showrunner Ryan Murphy.

So walk me through the logistics of making this movie, because you shot it while Glee was still in full swing last year, right?
I did, but Ryan Murphy was so sweet to give me two weeks off to go to New York. It’s funny, because the episode I was shooting when I left was the “Born This Way” episode where Rachel breaks her nose, and you’d think I wouldn’t be in a lot of that episode, but I managed to do this movie and not really make it look like Rachel was absent at all.

And then you went back for an additional shoot just two months ago, again while shooting Glee. Between all that shooting and the summer tours you do, how do you manage to stay in good health when you travel so much?
Listen, if you were with me on a plane? I’m embarrassed for the people who sit next to me. I have such a regimen! I, like, pound on the face cream because your face will dry out, I get the stuff you put in your nose so no nose germs come in, I take elderberry for immunity, I wear a scarf … I mean, I go to the extreme, because I fly almost literally every other weekend.

Were you cast first in New Year’s Eve, or was Ashton?
I was. I think I was one of the first people cast.

Lea Michele celebrates birthday on ‘Glee’ set
Written by on August 30th, 2011

Actress Lea Michele refused to let her busy filming schedule for Glee spoil her birthday on Monday – she celebrated her big day on set with her co-stars.

The star is currently filming the third season of the hit U.S. show, and rather than take a day off to mark turning 25, she showed up as scheduled.

And Michele’s castmates ensured she enjoyed her birthday, sending her their best wishes on Twitter.com, as well as spoiling her on set.

In a series of posts on her Twitter page, Michele writes,

“Woo hoo!!! 25!!!! It’s my Birthday!!!! Having the best bday at work!!! Doing a great scene…”

“I have the sweetest cast ever. Thanks for all your sweet bday wishes!!! I’m having such a great day. Feels great to be working on my bday with the people I love. Life is good!”
