“Glee” Adds Los Angeles and New York Dates

New York and Los Angeles fans of the FOX series “Glee” have something to sing about. The concert tour of the hit series, featuring Lea Michele and Corey Monteith, has added performances in both cities.

“Glee” Live! In Concert! will now play Los Angeles May 20-22 at the Gibson Amphitheatre, with an additional matinee and evening show on May 22. The New York engagement will now run May 28-30 at Radio City Music Hall, with an added matinee on May 28 and evening performance on May 30.

Previously announced stops on the four-city tour include Phoenix, AZ (May 15 at the Dodge Theatre); and Chicago, IL (May 25-26 at the Rosemont Theatre). Note that the tour will now launch in Phoenix May 15, rather than May 18 as originally scheduled.

Appearing in the concerts will be Michele (Rachel), Monteith (Finn), Amber Riley (Mercedes), Chris Colfer (Kurt), Kevin McHale (Artie), Jenna Ushkowitz (Tina), Mark Salling (Puck), Dianna Agron (Quinn), Naya Rivera (Santana), Heather Morris (Brittany), Harry Shum, Jr. (Mike) and Dijon Talton (Matt). Tony-nominated actor Matthew Morrison is not scheduled to participate.

Series creator, writer and director Ryan Murphy conceived “Glee” Live! In Concert!, which will highlight musical numbers from the show including “Don’t Stop Believin,” “Somebody To Love,” “Jump,” “Don’t Rain on My Parade” and “Sweet Caroline.”

“The response of the fans to our little show has been so immediate and so gratifying, we wanted to get out and thank them live and in person,” Murphy said in a statement. “And what show lends itself more to a concert than ‘Glee?’ We can’t wait to take this show on the road and the actors couldn’t be more excited to perform live for audiences in these four cities.”

“This has been such an extraordinary year for ‘Glee’ and I can’t think of a better way to finish up the first season than performing live on stage with the cast,” added Broadway’s Lea Michele (Spring Awakening) in a statement. Her co-star Corey Monteith also commented, “This show has changed my life in so many ways. If you had told me a year ago that I’d be performing classic rock songs in concert theaters around the country, I would never have believed you. We are psyched!”

Glee Season Finale Announced

The season one finale of Glee will air Tuesday, June 8, Fox has announced.

The musical comedy, which stars Jane Lynch, Cory Monteith and Lea Michele, will move to Tuesdays night beginning June 1.

As part of Fox’s summer schedule, encores of Glee will air Wednesdays at 8pm from June 16, serving as a lead-in for So You Think You Can Dance.

Idina Menzel to Play Lea Michele’s Mother on “Glee”?

Broadway actress Idina Menzel is slated to guest on the FOX hit series GLEE once the show returns from hiatus in April. Rumors continue to swirl as to what character she will play with many fans of the show speculating (and hoping) that Menzel will be cast as Lea Michele’s mother. In a story item out Sunday, February 28, The Daily News says that Menzel may play Michele’s biological mother after all.

From the Daily News: “Producers have said Menzel will play the director of Vocal Adrenaline, the rival show choir of the New Directions crew. But insiders tell us that the creators are still toying with having Menzel play the long-lost biological mom of Lea Michele’s character. “It’s no accident that Idina and Lea look and sound alike,” says our spy. “The story arc could have Idina’s character putting Lea up for adoption because she wanted to make it big in singing, then deciding she wants to get to know her daughter.”

Obama Orders a Command Performance By the “Glee” Kids

Being the president’s wife apparently has its perks.

Sources confirm to me exclusively that First Lady Michelle Obama has invited the cast of Glee to perform at the annual White House Easter Egg Roll on Monday, April 5 — and, barring any last-minute glitches, they’re gonna do it!

Rumor has it Mrs. O and her daughters are big fans of the show. And since a White House gig is an offer that’s pretty darn hard to refuse, Glee’s producers did some lickety-split schedule rejiggering in order to honor the request.

All in all, not a bad stretch for the Glee club: Glee The Music Volume 1 just moved up to No. 1 on the UK album charts, ahead of the ubiquitous Lady Gaga!

“Glee” Star Lea Michele Inspires New Musical

Even before making it big on Fox’s hit Glee, Lea Michele was already a bona fide Broadway star, thanks to 2006’s Spring Awakening. No wonder the theater world is anxious to get her back on the boards. One non-profit theater company in New York has gone so far as to create a show with Michele in mind, the New York Post reports. Reed Prescott, executive director of the New York Theatre Barn, confirms that the brunette belter helped inspire their new musical “Speargrove Presents,” based on a real-life incident in which a town blocked a high school production of “Rent.” He chatted with EW’s Simon Vozick-Levinson about the about the project — and explained why Michele is the best woman for the job:

EW: What can you tell us about the role?
Prescott: It’s the role of Caroline Bonds. It’s a role that’s similar to what she plays on Glee — the queen bee of the high school drama club…. People from the community rewrite the show and take her song out, so she quits the show, which gets misconstrued as a big political move…. At this big school board meeting, she speaks up for herself, and they end up doing a concert of the show at a different location.”

EW: Why Lea?
Prescott: Well, because she has Broadway chops, clearly. She’s actually attended some of our events in the past. We just always had it in mind.

EW: Have you reached out to Lea yet?
Prescott: We haven’t done any hardcore reaching out yet. We’re in the first stage, putting it together a reading.

There is, of course, the little matter of Michele’s insane schedule, as she continues to shoot and promote Glee. Isn’t she way too busy to take on a stage role? Her rep did not return requests for comment. Prescott, meanwhile, remains optimistic. If she says no, “we’ll reach out to someone else,” he says. “But ultimately, we would love Lea Michele.”

Glee Tour Announcement Coming

Gleeks sure have a lot to celebrate this week, first there was the “Glee” Best Comedy Series victory at the Golden Globes and then the news that Neil Patrick Harris will be singing and dancing with the nationals-bound New Directions. Now, the “Glee” live tour might be hitting a town near you! Stars of the show told fans the big announcement will happen at the end of the month. Lea Michele tweeted, “Hey everyone! A big announcement coming at the end of the month about our next Glee tour! Lots of singing and dancing to come!!!! ” and Kevin McHale posted, “News about the glee summer tour coming soon! We’re coming to see all you gleeks live! Wooo! So excited!”
